BULLETIN 24th Sept 2006

START AN ECCLESIA “INVESTMENT CLUB”

As with all things, it's easier to accomplish great goals when you work with others than when you work alone. Others help you to set high goals, to be faithful, to deliver on commitments and to stick with it even when the going is tough.

Today we have the opportunity to hear two testimonies of people who have set high goals and done them because they had “a team” around them. The first is a group of ladies who started an investment club, and the second is a couple. I came across the group of ladies sitting around a table at Java Adams, deep in discussion. I recognized all of them as Chapel members, and commented jokingly “You look like a group of rich businesswomen talking about money” . . . and indeed they were! Well, wait till you hear their story.

What struck me about the group is that they have been able to accomplish what they have done together . . . because they have each other. Many of our own good intentions flounder and die because we tried to go it alone. The discipline to do a great work with finances is easily one. But we can succeed if we are surrounded by friends. So consider working with your friend in one of the following two ways.
1. Start an investment club as an Ecclesia group. Once a month discuss your joint investments and how you can serve others. Good thing with this is you don't have to call for extra meetings as you already meet regularly anyway.
2. Get together five or six of your close friends and start a club.

You could register the club as a company (hence reducing the cost of transactions), or hold the shares individually (hence reducing the risk of entanglement). Either way enables you to benefit from the collective wisdom and accountability of others when you discuss strategy, shares to buy and sell, trends, etc. It also reduces the anxiety of being alone.

Remember you can go much further together than you will alone!

Announcements

Benevolence: From time to time we have people who visit our services soliciting for financial assistance (especially from our overseas members). If someone approaches you, please forward them to Pastor Vincent or Pastor Irene, who will often be at the Info desk each Sunday after the service. Sometimes such requests are genuine, in which case we want to help; but sometimes they are not. We try and filter the one from the other by interviewing the person extensively, and then giving them a day job in exchange for support. We also issue out food stamps, and grocery stamps for those in need of the same.

African Dress: We have postponed our 1st Anniversary Celebration from Oct 1st to Nov 5th. Our theme through that month will be celebrating our African ness, and dress theme will be African! Pls come prepared. Nov 5th is also the Sunday we will receive our new Pastor Janet Mutinda.

The Principle of Honor: Our next sermon series will be on 'Honor'. The bible says 'Honor those who are worthy of honor'. We are a blessed nation no wars, many natural resources, and economically the powerhouse in this region. Yet despite the blessings, we despise our leaders and ourselves. What must we do? Come learn how to honor your boss, your spiritual leaders and your parents for when you honor others, you yourself become honorable! The preacher through the month will be Pastor Muriithi of Mavuno Church.

Sunflower kids: The Sunflower Kids is holding auditions for their December play entitled 'Purpose' on the 30th of Sept between 8.30am and 12.30 at St Andrews PCEA church, Nairobi, University Way. Its for Children aged 7-14yrs. The registration fee is 1000/-. Come lets shine together!

Watch your belongings: Please watch your belongings carefully during the service. Unfortunately while many of us have come here to connect with God, some attend the service looking for opportunity to rob others of their handbags, bibles and any other valuables, therefore watch your belongings. Ladies - if you can, leave your handbags in your car-boot. Note - we have enough security detail to watch the cars and the premises while we are in service. We also have some plainclothes security detail with us in the service.

Vacancies at Logos: Logos Christian School, a ministry of Nairobi Chapel, has vacancies for teaching position in the Primary. Details are available at the info desk. You can also request this via email at: logos@wananchi.com Deadline for application is 4th October 2006.

Banns of Marriage: We wish to announce Banns of Marriage for Mr. Christopher Odongo and Miss. Susan Njambi whose wedding is to be held on October 10th at 11am at Bereri House, Muthaiga. If anyone knows a valid reason why they should not get married please let us know
