KIDS: OUR #ONE PRIORITY

Last week, the children’s department spent a wonderful 3 days together at on retreat considering our unique opportunity to influence our children. More than ever before, we sensed God challenging us to give ourselves to the work of nurturing children at Nairobi Chapel. But we also had lots of fun! Mwaniki Mageria had us dancing and composing our own original song while Martha Lee and Sammy of Tanari Trust had us playing a game that had all ages doing acrobatic moves. The sessions really focused on Scripture. All of us carried away a lot of practical wisdom that I'm convinced will be reflected in more confident and competent teaching. Here are two key principles we learnt:-

1 Kids must be our #1 Priority
George Barna in his book “Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions-Why Children should be your Church's #1 Priority” gives the following research findings: 80% of people accept Christ as Savior between the ages of 4-14. Probability of someone embracing Jesus as his or her Savior: 32% at ages 5-12, 4% at ages 13-18, 6% at over 19.George Barna concludes: “If you want to have a lasting influence upon the world, you must invest in people's lives; and if you want to maximize that investment, then you must invest in those people while they are young.”
Praise God that we belong to a Church that takes Children's ministry seriously. Pray that as a Church we would maximize that opportunity we have to design a life-transforming Sunday School.

2 We should have high standards of godliness:
Since the opportunity to reach the world by evangelizing and discipling the children is unequalled, we were called to be people God can use. We were challenged to be godly teachers of integrity as highlighted in Psalm 15. Each teacher is the children's pastor. The children pick from our lives as a dry sponge does water! In their simplicity the children imitate us indiscriminately.
Pray each teacher lives such a life of integrity before God that they can confidently invite the children to imitate them as they follow Christ. Pray that God draws spiritually upright men and women to this ministry so the children can have the best.
Thanks to all of you who prayed, gave financially and supported this event. God has used it significantly to renew our call to the children.

We rejoice greatly that our giving has gone up these last few months. Its allowing us to upgrade our storage facilities at the back of the tent, save funds to replace our dying P.A. mixer, sponsor more children in school, begin purchasing our own tents for Sunday school and save up to expand the tent as our numbers grow. Thank you very much for your faithful giving. God has supplied enough for the challenges we have if we all give our tithe and even go beyond our tithe to give at a higher level according to the measure of generosity He has put on our heart. God will reward you for giving to His world
