BULLETIN 8th May 2006

Pastor Bob Kikuyu

Our guest preacher today is Pastor Bob Kikuyu, the pastor of Lifespring Chapel. Pastor Bob grew up at Parklands Baptist Church and was very involved in the music ministry there as a youth. Later on, after completing his university studies, he joined Life Ministry as a missionary, and served for several years before joining us as an intern here at Chapel. After completing his internship he then became our worship director, and eventually the pastor in charge of worship.

In 2001 Bob joined NEGST to pursue his masters studies in bible, and upon completion, joined the Lifespring Chapel to take over leadership from the founding pastor, Steve Maina. He has served in this capacity for the last 2 years.

Bob is married to Yolanda, a music teacher at Hillcrest School. Together they are blessed with 3 children - Sande (9 yrs), Ledama (7) and a daughter, Musimbi (3).

Lifespring Chapel : Was started in 1999 when Steve Maina, and a team of 20 members, including our then Elder, Ken Ikiara and his family, were commissioned for this work. They began meeting at the Pipeline Estate Hall, and over the next 5 years the church grew to a total of 400 adults. Pastor Bob took over leadership from Steve in 2004.

In 2003 they purchased their own 1 acre property next to Pipeline Estate, and are in the process of building classrooms and facilities for their children. At present the main church meets in a tent. Their intention is to turn the property into a ministry center with multipurpose functions - a nursery school for the community, a clinic and a youth ministry center. They also have a 'Work for Food' program for the jobless, that also gathers for fellowship on Wednesdays.

They have planted one church in the Kwa-Njenga slum, which has about 150 members.

If you attend Lifespring you will quickly see that the essence of church, and much work has been put into developing 'community'. Their Ekklesia home groups are not about bible study, but about fellowship and bonding. The goal is to develop a real sense of belonging and family for all the church members, and to make them know what it really means to be 'the family of God'.

We welcome Pastor Bob to our pulpit. This is his first time to visit us here and we are honored that he would leave his sheep and come minister to us. Bob is a gifted preacher and I know he will be a real blessing to us today. Welcome too to his worship team from Lifespring, as they lead us in song today.

Bob Kikuyu

Announcements

Last Sundays!

Just watch this space, about what will happen every last Sunday from 12:30 -2pm!
It's a youth thing. Worship, dance, Jesus. Mad drama! Watch this space.

Theft notice: Last week a member of our church was robbed of her purse. Ladies please be attentive to your belongings ALL the time as handbags are an easy and obvious target. Do not put your handbag, purse, open bags, chiondo's, etc on the floor - hold them in your lap . . . better still leave them in the car or at home. Short of doing a body search on men (which doesn't take care of women who also come in to steal purses), there's nothing we can do. So please take extra care with your personal belongings.

If you suspect someone's behavior, or see anyone pinch something, please let our ushers know as we have several plainclothes with us who would assist us in such circumstances.

Preaching in July/Aug: Living Off The Edge. Do you live on the edge financially? Does the issue of money stress you out? Are you living from hand to mouth even though you earn a salary? Are you up to your neck and drowning in debt? If your answers are yes to these questions, then come for a financial makeover in July & August where we'll look at very practical tips in the bible on how to manage your finances, find financial freedom and live the debt-free life. Did you know that Jesus had more to say about money and wealth than about faith, prayer and the kingdom of heaven combined? Come learn what the 4 secrets to wealth are, how to multiply the wealth God has given you, and how to invest wisely. On top of looking at what the bible says, we will also have special guests visiting us - a leading financial advisor, the former Nairobi Stock Exchange MD, a testimony by someone who got out of the debt trap, and several entrepreneurs and businessmen will share their insights and unique stories. Invite your friends for this 8 week series - it's going to change your life and theirs.

Men's Prayer Day: Calling all men to join together on Thursday 1st June from 7 - 10 am here at the tent for a time of intercessory prayer. Men please put this one in your calendars.

Prison Library: In our outreach to the prisons we want to begin a small library for them. Do you have good books and magazines at home that you no-longer need and could contribute towards this effort. Of course none of the “Escape from Alcatraz” type qualify, but please be generous and bring all your extra books to church next Sunday so we can begin building a book bank. Spiritually nourishing books would be especially helpful. Also bring all the primary and secondary school textbooks your kids have finished using (whatever educational system). We will donate the school books to several children’s homes.
