BULLETIN 4th June 2006

A new church starting: Mavuno Downtown

One of the most exciting things for me this year has been seeing what God is doing in the Nairobi Chapel family of churches. I have seen many lives transformed when people have come face to face with who God is and what He can do in our lives. We have yet another opportunity to see God at work in this city; and it is incredibly thrilling for me to be a part of this venture.
By God’s grace, this morning we will be starting a small congregation in the center of Nairobi.  We will gather together at the Tin Tin restaurant in the KICC building ground floor, at 10am to begin what will thence be known as Mavuno Downtown Chapel. To start us off we will be going through as series called “We Nairobians,” through which we will see what the book of Ephesians has to say to us at this time, place and season as Nairobians.
You can also to be a part of this wonderful opportunity. Here are two ways you can be involved – through prayer and through participation.
There are many things to pray about but here is a sample list of key items:
First give thanks for a central, highly accessible venue and for the eager core group of leaders who have already been meeting and praying about this vision.
Pray for more people to join various teams to help put together the services each Sunday.
Please pray for a rich harvest of lives in this church. I am praying that more than 20 people will come to faith in the first two months as we learn together about what the Bible says to us Nairobians.

In terms of participation – here are two things for you to do
Come and attend the services. As you do this, bring a friend. The church is in a very accessible location and so it will not be difficult to bring along someone from anywhere in Nairobi. I would especially ask you to invite a friend who doesn’t go to church or who is still trying to figure out their journey of faith.
Come and join the ministry teams. We need people to help setup, ushers, prayer team members and Sunday school teachers.

If you need more information please come up and talk to any of the Pastors and they will be happy to give you more details of how you can contact us and join in.

God is moving in Nairobi and I invite you to join in, make that move right now. Be a part of Mavuno Downtown, where real people meet a real God.

A Gala night is also scheduled on June 16 at the Grand Regency Hotel at 6:30 pm. All are welcome. Tickets available at the information table after the service, and from Keswick bookstore and New-Metro, Junction.

Job Opportunity : The Bible Society of Kenya is looking for a new General Secretary. If you would like to aapply, please visit the Information desk to see qualifications necessary.

Giving in May : We hit our highest ever giving last month at 2.7 m, and a low in May at 1.4 m.   But thank you to all those who gave generously and faithfully. Please lets all continue to do so as our giving interprets into making this work of Ngong Road possible. No matter how much, or how little you give, your giving is essential and valuable in sustaining this work. Our prayer is that all of us would give a tithe or more . . . and if we all did, it would be more than enough.

Safari Sevens is Here : Once a year, the Impala Club hosts a big international event - the Safari Sevens. This year the event will be on June 15 - 18. The fields are filled out with tents, the games start early, and cars spill out a long way in both directions. On Sun 18 the first match will be at 11 am. We have therefore chosen to hold our Sunday service on that day at 8 - 9 am! In case you have ever wondered what time God wakes up, come and discover that he's awake and vibrant in power even at 8 am on a Sunday morning. This will be a one hr family service with the 6 - 12 yr olds with us in the service.

PMCC - Are you planning to wed this year or early next year. Our next Premarital Counseling Class begins on Sun Aug 6th, for 10 weeks. Please register your name at the Information Table outside and we will contact you nearer the day.

Website Design : Jane Wathome (Beacon of Hope) has been invited to attend the Urbana meeting in St Louis, US, in Dec., and conduct a workshop on AIDS. BOH needs to set up a first-class websites, and produce really good informational materials to facilitate in their publicity and in having a portal where they can send interested people for more information. If you have the gift of journalism, writing or website design, you could be a really huge blessing to the HIV-AIDS people in Kware, and to BOH, by volunteering to help them. You need to be willing to work hard, and to come through on the promise. Please help. Incidentally, we need to do the same for Nairobi Chapel also.

Banns of Marriage : We wish to announce the banns of marriage for a wedding to take place between Michael Thomas Brett and Esther Wanjiku Kegah on 30 th June 2006 at the Shrine of Mary Catholic Church in Upperhill, Nairobi. If you know any reason why this couple may not lawfully wed, please let the pastor know.
