BULLETIN 2nd July 2006

Please Pray For Our Church

Let's all rejoice that Albert Outa (M. Div.) and Eda Esilaba (M. A. Christian Ed.) graduate from NEGST next Saturday morning. Both husband and wife hold great promise in their love for God and their commitment to serve as pastors. It is a great blessing and honor to us that they will be joining our pastoral staff on graduation. As their pastor I rejoice for Nairobi Chapel especially because they have proved themselves faithful over the years. Albo is currently leading our worship, while Eda teaches the Crossroads class (12 yr olds) and works with the teenagers.

Pray too for Cyrus & Susan Gikori. They have just come back from a leadership development internship in the US at Grace Community Church, and both feel called to Muslim evangelism. They will therefore be making their home at the Coast, and initiating an outreach to Muslims by starting up small group house churches. This is a difficult work and they need all the support and encouragement they can get. For the next one month they will be here with us, with Cyrus overseeing the Sunday services.

Wacuka Ngure's mother and father are both in hospital and in need of your prayer cover. Her father was diagnosed with cancer, so the family traveled down to SA for treatment. This has gone well. While they were down there however, they noticed her mother was having mental lapses. She was diagnosed as a blockage in one of her veins and has now been treated, but it means Wacuka has 2 patients in hospital. Wacuka is one of our Sunday School Teacher Trainers.

We have so far confirmed 3 interns for the next cycle. Tim Engelmann, a German student. Tim grew up in Southern Tanzania as a missionary kid. He will be joining us in mid September. Mercy Ngure is about to complete her final term at Nairobi University & will join us around the same time. Florence Wabaiya, from Covenant church, is already with us to mentor under Pastor Beatrice in the children's ministry.

Pastor Luke Jaoko, and his wife Lillian,  come back home on 16th July. Luke has now completed his M. Div at Trinity University, Chicago with very good grades. He will be rejoining the Chapel fraternity after a months rest. Pray for his big relocation. Coming back and starting all over again (reconnecting, establishing a home, etc) is not a small or easy task. His 3 children also need to be placed in school next term.

One of our goals is to always have developing leaders in training. With two of our budding leaders graduating, we have availed a scholarship to Pastor Vincent to train at a Masters level. Please pray for him as he works the admission process. Pastor  Vincent, whose passion is theological education, graduated from the Pan-African Christian Collage top of his class and we know he will excel at NEGST.

Adult Care Pastor : With Pastor Vincent going to school from Sept, we have been praying over the last 3 months that the Lord will give us an experienced, mature (35 yrs +) pastor to lead us in caring for our adult members. I have also been praying it will be a lady, so as to give some additional balance to our team. Please join us in praying about this. This is a very important matter, and good, godly pastors with experience are not easily found; and yet our need is very specific.

Our giving for the month of June was down again, probably due to the Safari Seven's Sunday. Please earnestly pray that it would rise above expectations so that we can catch up in the areas we have now fallen behind on. Your tithe, big or small, makes a big difference in what the church can or cannot accomplish, and I cannot stress enough how important it is that we all tithe faithfully.

I (Pastor Oscar) leave for the US in 10 days time to attend a Pre-Urbana speakers retreat in St Louis.  I will also be meeting with the Elmbrook Church elders, and the Senior Pastor of Grace Community Church. At the same time I will also be visiting a church in San Antonio, who have asked Nairobi Chapel to assist them begin a ministry outreach to orphaned children. Please pray for these 'relational investment' meetings.

Pray & fast : In Aug we will approach the Govt again on our land matters. I would like to call the church to a  fast over this. Would you join together in making July a month of prayer about the release of our land, and set aside the last week of July (23 - 29th ), as a season of fasting and concerted prayer? On the morning of Saturday 29th I call all of us to a time of prayer from 8 am till 12:30 pm to break that prayer season.

Praise the Lord for the new Bible Club for Children at KSTC. The first meeting was held last Saturday and went brilliantly! 100 children, all very excited about the club. We will be holding it every 2nd and 4th Saturday morning. "The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. Pray ye therefore that the Lord of the harvest may send out more laborers into the harvest field"

Announcements

Kids Camp : Parents and children enter into your diary the 2006 August school holiday day camp dates happening at the Nbi Chapel Impala club for ages 6 to 11 years. August 8th to 12th. Please register your child for this at the Information Table. Camp will be from 8 am till 12:30 pm each day here at the tent. We have chosen to have a day camp so as to keep the total costs down. Cost per child is 1,500/=.

PMCC - Are you planning to wed this year or early next year. Our next Premarital Counseling Class begins on Sun Aug 6th, for 10 weeks. Please register your name at the Information Table outside and we will contact you nearer the day.

"Money Matters : Finding Financial Freedom" Do you live to shop? Does that holiday in the sun always take priority over saving for a rainy day? Do your credit card debts keep you awake at night? What would you live on if you lost your job tomorrow? Do you ever feel as though your life is spiraling downwards in debt? We want to take these money matters head-on and dig deep in scripture for help through our series. This will be an exciting study to look forward to in August/ September as we invite several Christian financial advisors to help us look at an area many struggle with in quiet desperation. Invite a non-church attending friend to come profit from what will be rich, life changing teaching.

Child dedication : Will take place on December 3rd, but we'd like to ask those parents with Children to be dedicated to list up early and let us know. We will be holding some classes on "Parenting the 0 - 6 yr old Child", and would like to begin preparing early. Classes begin on Sept 3rd for 10 weeks. All parents wishing to have their child dedicated must attend this class.

"Wounded Healers" : Have you recently gone through bereavement and loss caused by the death of a loved one, a traumatic incident, betrayal, separation or divorce? Would you like help in processing your grief, and in understanding how to grieve in a healthy way? If so please join this special group of others who are going through the same thing, hear how others are dealing with their loss, share your own pain and healing process, and pray for one another as 'wounded healers". Please register your name and contacts at the Information Table. The group begins meeting on August 20th for 6 weeks.

Watch your belongings : Please watch your belongings carefully during the service. Unfortunately while many of us have come here to connect with God, some attend the service looking for opportunity to rob others of their handbags, bibles and any other valuables, therefore watch your belongings. Ladies - if you can, leave your handbags in your car-boot. Note - we have enough security detail to watch the cars and the premises while we are in service. We also have some plainclothes security detail with us in the service.

Benevolence : From time to time we have people who visit our services soliciting for financial assistance (especially from our overseas members). If someone approaches you, please forward them to Pastor Vincent or Pastor Irene, who will often be at the Info desk each Sunday after the service. Sometimes such requests are genuine, in which case we want to help; but sometimes they are not. We try and filter the one from the other by interviewing the person extensively, and then giving them a day job in exchange for support. We also issue out food stamps, and grocery stamps for those in need of the same

Sermon Series :
"When God sends a messenger".

Today's Sermon Title : Finding Forgiveness?

Next Sunday : Pastor Jason Webb. (Pastor -Young Adults, Elmbrook Church).
