BULLETIN 23rd July 2006

THE GIFT OF MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES

I remember when our children were young and we would jump into a car with food from my store, a tent and go off to Fisherman’s Camp. The girls would give my husband the opening sentence of a story and he would pick it up and keep it going without ending for the 2-3 days we were there. He had to conclude it on the final day…, the girls loved it- to this day they still talk about those memories.
Very early in our parenting, we learnt that memorable experiences don’t need to be expensive. What made them special was that they were shared by the whole family and in the context of laughter and care. Children need these experiences for their growth and learning. Isn’t it interesting how God picked monuments in Israel’s spiritual experiences and told the adults to preserve them for the children?  We see this in the pass-over meal as Israel left Egypt (Exodus13:14) and altar after the crossing of the Jordan (Joshua 4: 21-22);
At Nairobi Chapel, we try to partner with parents to add more memorable experiences to their lives each year, and that’s through the Kids Camp. Prayerfully, we try to plan for an event that will be marked with joy, laughter and significant learning.
The enthusiasm and involvement of our parents is the backbone of our success. Some have given of their time and joined us while others have given financial support for kids who would otherwise have missed out.   se
Each year we trust God for a team of loving and Godly teachers/counselors who are used by the Holy Spirit to impact the kids. Camp allows the Counselors to have focused time with the individual child over several days. Consequently Parents have testified to the tremendous growth in character that has impacted their children’s lives after attending a Kids Camp.
 At Kids Kamp, we incorporate exciting activities that enhance natural learning and easy absorption of truth. We engage the children’s creativity through art and craft, singing, drama, and positive competition where each child is a winner. But the highlight is to see spiritual truth taught well, absorbed and remembered by the children for a long time. At kid’s kamp it’s more than just fun: It is shared memorable experiences that are life-transforming and children caught up in things of eternal value.

Pray with us that God will powerfully use this year’s kids’ kamp to change our children’s lives; and that He will draw children significantly to Himself.
Pray also that God will give these children Godly, memorable experiences.

In response to the crisis in the North Eastern Province, Defence for Children International Kenya an affiliate of Defence for Children International Geneva partnered with Shelter Box UK to provide the displaced accommodation tents.
Shelter Box airlifted to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport 200 shelter Box kits as an advance consignment of 6000 shelter kits in May 2006 valued at USD 120,000.
Despite this being a donation on Humanitarian grounds, we are expected to pay duty of USD 30,000 on or before the 14th of this month failure to which the shelter kit tents will be auctioned within 21 days .we hope to beat this deadline
