ON A LIGHT NOTE

OK, the last couple of bulletin articles have been real heavy, so this one is just for the laugh. And you'll never guess who sent it to me - it wasn't Churchill, but Dr Paul Wangai!

A man was sick and tired of going to work every day while his wife stayed at home. He wanted her to see what he went through so he prayed, "Dear Lord, I go to work every day and put in eight hours while my wife merely stays at home. I want her to know what I go through, so please trade our bodies."

God, in His infinite wisdom, granted the man's wish. The next morning, sure enough, the man awoke as a woman.

He arose, cooked breakfast for his mate, awakened the kids, set out their school clothes, fed them breakfast, packed their lunches, drove them to school, came home and picked up the dry cleaning, took it to the cleaners and stopped at the bank to draw out money to pay the power bill and telephone bill, drove to the power company and the phone company and paid the bills, went grocery shopping, came home and put away the groceries. He cleaned the cat's litter box and bathed the dog.

By then it was already 1:00 p.m. so he hurried to make the beds, do the laundry, vacuum, dust, and sweep and mop the kitchen floor. He ran to the school to pick up the kids and got into an argument with them on the way home. He set out cookies and milk and got the kids organized to do their homework, then set up the ironing board and watched TV while he did the ironing.

At 5:30 PM he began peeling potatoes and washed greens for salads, breaded the chops and snapped fresh beans for supper.

After supper, he cleaned the kitchen, folded laundry, bathed the kids, and put them to bed. At 9:00 PM he was exhausted and though his chores weren't finished, he went to bed where he was required to make light talk, listen to his mates day, and show wifely affection.

The next morning, he awoke and immediately knelt by the bed and said, " Lord, I don't know what I was thinking. I was so wrong to envy my wife's being able to stay home all day. Please, O Lord please, trade our bodies back."

The Lord, in His infinite wisdom, replied, "My son, I feel you have learned your lesson, and I will be happy to change things back to the way they were. But you'll have to wait 9 months, though. You got pregnant last night!!!"

(Laugh, guys, laugh!)

Announcements

Today's sermon concludes our 8 week study on the names of God. There are infact many other names God is called by too many for us to study at once, but here are a couple more.

ELOHIM: The general name of God. Occurs 2,570 times in the OT and 32 times in Gen. 1 alone.

EL SHADDAI: Commonly translated God Almighty but more approprietly 'The God who blesses'. 48 times in the OT, 31 times in Job alone. First used in Gen. 17:1, 2.

ADONAI: 'Lord' or 'Master'' in our English Bibles. 300 times in the OT always plural when referring to God, when singular the reference is to a human lord. First use of God in Gen. 15:2. Heavy use in Isaiah (Adonai Jehovah). 200 times by Ezekiel. Ten times in Dan. 9.

JEHOVAH: LORD in our English Bibles (all capitals). Yahweh is the covenant name of God. Occurs 6823 times in the OT First use Gen. 2:4 (Jehovah Elohim). "The Self-Existent One," "I AM WHO I AM" or 'I WILL BE WHO I WILL BE" as revealed to Moses at the burning bush, Ex.3. The name of God. The people of Israel were too sacred to utter this name and so wrote "YHWH" (without vowel points) instead. Also called the tetragrammaton. The books of Joshua., Judges, Samuel and Kings use Jehovah almost exclusively.

JEHOVAH-JIREH: "The Lord will Provide." (Gen. 22:14).

JEHOVAH-RAPHE: "The Lord Who Heals" (Ex. 15:22-26). From "rophe" ("to heal"); implies spiritual, emotional as well as physical healing.
