Kenya Seed of Hope
My name is Maureen Mwende Kyalo. I am twenty one years old. I come from Eastern province in Machakos district and this is my story.
I come from a poor family background whereby my father used to work as a carpenter while my mother was a house wife. My parents used to live in Nairobi while I stayed with my grandmother in the rural area. Every morning, my brother and I would help our grandmother in the shamba before going to school. Life was very difficult for us.
After completing my Primary education in the year 2003, I didn’t have any hope for the future because I was used to the kind of life we were living. I would help my grandmother because most of the time I was just at home. I used to blame myself for everything that I was going through but at the end of the day I would thank God that I was alive.
Then one Saturday my father came and took me from the rural area hoping to take me to Secondary school but things didn’t work out as planned for he had a very low income so I stayed at home.
It was in the year 2004 that my father told me about Seed of Hope. We went to find out it was all about and I was so happy to be enrolled in as one of the students. My life began to change and I really felt at home at Seed of Hope. It was then that I realized there had been something I really missing in my life as I found loving people who really cared for me and my future. They gave me the skills that would help me and those skills have made me what I am.
I am now employed under a project called Crafted whereby we deal with jewelry and fashionable clothing. The products are made by the teenage girls from Seed of Hope. I love my job because I learn a lot from it and it gives me an opportunity to interact with different people all over the country.
My plan for the future is to help my mother and my brother have a better life than they have now. I sincerely thank Vision Africa, Deborah Kimathi and the staff members of Seed of Hope centre for they gave me a chance to change my life and that of my family.
MAY THE ALMIGHTY GOD BLESS YOU ALL. |
