It's all about Him
Testimony by Lawrence Lumbya, a graduate of the Harvest School of Prayer class that ended in May
Several significant things have happened recently that have changed my life. I had made a list of items for the Lord to provide. However, in the course of the prayer and fasting our Lord in His mercy, grace and gentleness first of all broke me! He opened me up and showed me parts of my life that I had either carefully hidden or had been in me, that I had ignored and failed to put before him. He still does to this day and I learnt that it’s all about Him, ALL!!
For the first time in my life, I experienced what it means to actually have long uninterrupted talks and walks with the Lord. It felt like we were walking through this simple neat tunnel where only our two voices were heard, and I was actually the louder one with my many selfish “why” and “buts”. But the Lord is so good, in that while I cried because of him showing me just how much I had failed Him, He always placed his arms around me and hugged me.
I also learnt that indeed the greatest sacrifice comes from self and nothing else. To take a 21 Day Fast in honour of the Lord, placed me and everything else I ever imagined as being important on earth, more than a distant second.
In the course of the Fast, Mark 1:35 taught me what seeking the face of the Lord entailed, and the joy of that sacrifice. Everything else paled in significance. I literally learnt what the Bible tells us when it says that no greater a sacrifice is there than Jesus giving his life for us, for me!
After many years of wondering and trying, I learnt what it means to simply sit and be still – simple as that!. Hard as it is in the world we live in, when I managed to master my mind, I was awed at how much the Lord speaks to us and just how excited He is to feel us longing for His presence.
For the first time in my life I was able to worship from 9pm to midnight on a Saturday night, then pray through the Scripture, being lead by the Holy Spirit to Scripture till about 3am! I never imagined I would be able to do that alone with the Lord, it was beautiful and I would wish nothing less for anyone who desires the Lord’s face than to go through such a time as a 21 Day of Fasting and praying and being deliberately focused on the Lord.
Why should we fast?
Mark 9:28-29. And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast him out?” So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” There are certain situations whose solution is a combination of prayer and fasting.
Fasting is the most powerful spiritual discipline of all the Christian disciplines. Through fasting and prayer, the Holy Spirit can transform your life.
Fasting and prayer can also work on a much grander scale. According to Scripture, personal experience and observation, I am convinced that when God's people fast with a proper Biblical motive-seeking God's face not His hand-with a broken, repentant, and contrite spirit, God will hear from heaven and heal our lives, our churches, our communities, our nation and world.
Fasting and prayer can bring about revival - a change in the direction of our nation, the nations of earth and the fulfillment of the Great Commission. The awesome power can be released through you as you fast through the enabling of the Holy Spirit.
