Mission Tujuane

nijue...nikujue

“Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms”
1 Peter 4 : 9 – 10

I

It has been almost 2 years since we moved to our new sanctuary and during this time we have been busy settling down as a church. As we continue “Growing DEEP” in discipleship we need to start fulfilling the second part our mission to “Reaching WIDE”. In this respect, we need to start somewhere, and just as a ripple starts from its eye, even so we need to first reach out to our

“Jerusalem” the immediate neighbourhoods around our sanctuary.“He told them, ‘this is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.’”  – Luke 24 : 46 – 48

Our Jerusalem includes variety of estates such as Santak, Suna 1 & 2, and low-income living areas such as Ngando, Githembe and Kibera.
Recent visits to these areas has shown that our presence as a Church is negligible and the misconceptions of us a community quite shocking. We are perceived to be a closed community of the elite and in some cases, an occult community of the worst possible extent. Our neighbours do not feel welcome to join us and simply do not believe that we are a Church of God.
2Juane is an outreach initiative developed by Chapelites for Chapelites to introduce us to our immediate neighbourhood. As we start on our commission to ‘reach wide’ we need to be felt at home – not as an organization, but as individual believers in Jesus Christ living in Christ.
It is time to rise up and influence transformation.

Goals

1.  We need to reach out and let the neighbourhood know that they are welcome to our Church and that we are part of the community.
2.  We all need to participate – each one to reach one, a chance to appreciate and impart God’s grace, gift and blessings.
3.  In obedience to God’s word, we need to share the good news and build the Kingdom of God.

How do we achieve this?

Simple really! 2Juane has been fashioned to enable every one of us to participate in a variety of activities with our brothers and sisters from the neighbourhood starting August 23rd through to November 1st 2009. There are a variety of activities which you can take part in to give a face to Nairobi Chapel as follows:

Prayer and Prayer Walks
Our Jerusalem largely consists of low-income housing and supporting retail-centres. Public amenities such as water and sewerage, roads, lighting and medical facilities are limited or non-existent. Many people living in these areas have given in to hopelessness and desolation. Alcohol, drugs and pornography have taken strong root and witch doctors thrive in the area.
We all need to start praying earnestly for the deliverance of this community. 2Juane also includes several prayer walks to ask God to go before us and make way for His works. We all need to take part in the prayer walks starting from 7:30 am to 10:03 am on the specified days.

Football Tournament
The youth in a community such as our Jerusalem is the most impressionable demography, whether positively and negatively. While many work hard to break free, a sizeable number are lost to idleness.
Working closely with Nairobi City Stars (Football Ministry) and H20, we have organised two different Football tournaments to engage the children, youth and even adults to six-a-side football matches through which we can spread the word of God. Ladies, can you damsels play soccer? Really?

Environmental Clean-up Project
As with any developing area with strained public utilities and services, refuse and sewage is a problem and health hazard. 2Juane has identified 5 zones in which we can help to clean up and plant trees. We will also be donating Garbage bins to provide a solution for refuse disposal.
This will be an excellent opportunity to meet our neighbours and show them that we care and that we can roll-up our sleeves when the need arises. They might also learn something from us.

Children’s Ministry
The Children’s ministry will be launching a full-blown outreach programme for their peers within Santak estate. This is a great opportunity for your children to get involved with Nairobi Chapel’s outreach programme. They will also need volunteers to help with the many different activities that they have lined up.

Movie Outreach
2Juane has identified several ‘movie parlours’ in our neighbourhood where we will show Movies for FREE to enable spreading the good news to our neighbours. Join one of the teams during the season to minister to our brethren.
This will also be an excellent opportunity for those of you in different ministries to reach out to people on specific content. This outreach will run through the month of October.

Door-to-door Evangelism
2Juane has systematically divided up our neighbourhood into a number of E-zones to make way for continuous day-to-day door-to-door Evangelism. All the security forces and administration authorities have been alerted and even training is being organised for this outreach. This is the ultimate opportunity to meet our neighbours at home and spread the good news to them throughout October.

Concert and family fun-day!
To cap it all, on the 1st of November 2009, we will be having a Gospel concert and family fun-day right here at our sanctuary in the afternoon. There will be lots of fun activities going on with lots of food and music. MOG, Juliani and KKrew amongst others will be in the house. Let’s all be there to meet our neighbours and visitors.

How do I plug-in to 2Juane?

While a team of Chapelites have been working behind the scenes to enable these activities flow as seamlessly as possible, there is still a lot to be done. In this regard, we all really need to make a commitment to participate in at least one of these activities. Below is a list of areas in which you can commit yourself:

Individuals

Pray: Please keep 2Juane in your prayer constantly. Little can be achieved without the Lord going before us so we need to pray for his blessings in this outreach initiative.

Prayer Walks: Please join us on each of the prayer walks – it will be an opportunity for you to identify needs that you can commit to God in prayer as well as to lend your special gifting to. Sign up for the prayer walks at the 2Juane desk.

Football: Please help to sponsor a team for the football tournament. By sponsoring a team with KShs 8,000.00, we can then provide them with 6 T-shirts and a soccer ball. Use your business networks to get sponsorship and we will have the T-Shirts branded with their logo. Get your friends together and form a team – you might just win (and there’s time to practice).

Clean-up: Each of the clean-up zones has an expected number of team members needed – so sign up where the man-power is needed. And even if the numbers are already there, the more the merrier!

Children’s ministry: We need as many volunteers as possible to participate with the Children’s ministry in their outreach to Santak estate. Sign up for this at the 2Juane desk.

Movie Outreach: The Youth D-group have already adopted the Movie Outreach activities. It will cost us KShs 800.00 hire a ‘movie parlour’ and sit approximately 75 to 80 people. Let us back-up the youth and sponsor as many movies as possible, as well as being there to participate with them. Sign up for movies at the 2Juane desk.

Door-to-door evangelism: This is an excellent opportunity to engage in spreading the good news to our neighbours. Please sign-up for Evangelism at the 2Juane desk. You will receive some training and familiarisation with various evangelism materials.
Please buy a 2Juane T-Shirt for only KShs 1000 to help raise funds for different activities and to make us more visible as a church during the 2Juane season.

E-Groups and Plug-in Groups
þ Pray: Please take the opportunity to pray in groups for the 2Juane outreach initiative. “For where two or three gather in my name there am I with them” – Matthew 19: 20
þ Prayer Walks: Please join us on each of the prayer walks and adopt a zone for which you can stand in the gap as a fellowship. “Now may the Lord’s strength be displayed, just as you have declared, ‘The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion’.”
– Numbers 14: 17-18
þ Football: Please help to sponsor a team for the KShs 8,000.00 and form a six-a-side team. Both teams will get T-Shirts branded with your group name.
þ Clean-up: Adopt-a-zone for the clean-up exercise as a group. You will find ways for continued interaction in your zone including tending the tree sapplings. “And let us now consider how we can spur each other on towards love and good works” – Hebrews 10: 24
þ Children’s ministry: Partner with Pastor Bea and team by signing up for the Children’s Ministry at the 2Juane desk.
þ Movie Outreach: Partner with a youth D-group and support them with the Movie Outreach. Sign up for movies at the 2Juane desk.
þ Door-to-door evangelism: Adopt-a-zone for the evangelism mission and build long-term relationships in our neighbourhood. Sign up for this at the 2Juane desk.

Can’t find somewhere to fit in?

Are you sure? Maybe you should read through again.
But we still have a lot of work to be done in the planning stages so you can join us in helping to facilitate 2Juane. Some of the areas where we need help include:
•    Fund raising for garbage bins, trees, cleaning materials, movies, posters and other materials
•    Football field stewards, commissioners, referees and other officials
•    Flyer and Poster Distribution
•    Logistical coordinators
Please sign-up under planning at the 2Juane desk to help us in these areas.
