Little Unsung Heros

As CNN features the most influential person of the year, we too in CM brag about our own unsung heros: the children themselves. Many children among us have had to surmount the pain of bereavement, parents’ divorce, illness and difficult school environments and countless other circumstances while living with the daily challenges of life which we all face. For those of us who have had the privilege of walking alongside them we have been awed by their faith and resilience.

Mburu Njoroge got saved at our August Kids Kamp and we all could see his quiet joy. What amazed us is that as he went home he understood he had found  a treasure too good to keep to himself and passed on the message of God’s love to his sister who in turn gave her life to the Lord! What is more he is now regularly praying for his dad in particular to become God’s friend in this special way. He is now called “pastor” in school and by extended  because of his obvious friendship with God.

Hats off for Samuel Moturi the young 12 year old who has been our drummer at Kids worship time this whole year. Each Sunday he has come early to practice with a group of aspiring drummers watching him with fascination. He is the big brother they want to become. After the half hour of worship he then goes to his GUZA youth group.  Today he is with us playing  for you all.

A while ago we had one sick child, Allan  who refused to miss church even though he had been hospitalized and on a drip. His parents were amazed at his devotion to God and came to talk with us at CM. It challenged us all to be just as dedicated and excited about God’s House.

Then there is Mahia Kiiru whose creative entrepreneurship has challenged us all. Mahia sourced start-up capital from a supportive adult friend and had T-Shirts made which he sold over a long time. He  managed to save 30,000ksh which he brought to the church to be used for  CM. We have bought a semi-acoustic guitar and voltage regulator for our sound and we dedicate it today during today’s service.

This is the exciting space in which we live as we service the children! Our prayer is that each one will “be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord himself”. I will remain eternally grateful to the many devoted and selfless men and women who pray, setup, lead worship, teach, shepherd and  carry out numerous tasks each week so that the children can have a life transforming encounter with God. I honour those we call F.O.S.S (Friends of Sunday School).

These are those among you who anonymously support us in unique ways like sponsorship for our camp events, teacher breakfasts and teacher training; outreach to the schools; regularly supplying our benevolent efforts to children homes and financially supporting our CM interns. Others like Josephine Wakhu supply us beautiful special event cakes to the children’s delight. Juliette Murugu and David Kombe are our “Incentive Foss” helping us think creatively  how to reward, affirm and celebrate each child in our Sunday school. Steve Gacheru, John Ndegwa, Gicheru Kimani, Andrew Koros, Mburu Ngugi  and Joseph Njenga have been dads on board offering security and strategic insight. Ciru Githanga and Wacuka Ngure have been my two right hands lending me oversight support each Sunday. And so the children have thrived. Your are all mentoring them to grow into God’s heros.

Prayer

Normally towards the end of any year many businesses take stocks, this exercise helps in evaluations. “This is how we know that our tent has been safe, we take stock of our property and we find nothing missing”, Job5:24. This year we faced many challenges but the Lord delivered us from them all, in fact we achieved more than we had anticipated on our plans. Surely the Lord ordered our steps for His name’s sake. So as we close the year, thankfully consider all the activities/blessings of this year and thank God. Do not forget your private ones; salvation, health, promotions, provisions and protection. We remind you only a few.

We thank God for the successful launch and growth of the Prayer Service early this year. We have witnessed victory in many ways through the corporate intercessions of our people participating every Sunday morning from 9am. Thank God for the successful Keshas, various other prayer/fasting events and current passion of prayer at Chapel.  Thank God for the successful launce of MEN by Design ministry and pray for the up-coming Young Adults to be launched early next year.

Thank God for the liberating sermon series we have had throughout the year; the Leviathans, Leadership, Prison Breaks, Marriage, Evangelism, Gideon Action to name but a few. Thank God for the many souls that came to salvation of Christ, reconciliations, deliverance from evil oppressions, growth in numbers and capacity especially at Children Church, spiritual renewal at Youth Church and many marriages/families that were restored.

Bless the Lord for Pastor Oscar who was a key plenary speaker for International meetings; esp Keswick and World Relief among other pastors. Thank God for wisdom and strength he gave our leaders over the recent land issue and victory so far.  Remember the successful Adiya events, visitations, PMCCs, camps and Ekklesias.

Resourcefulness of Nairobi Chapel was remarkable; “we have been made rich in every way and we became generous in every occasion”-2Cor.9:11; give thanks for Chapelites’ generosity during the events of early this year; Msafaras, IDP resettlements, the halfway homes, the Kimuri kids, adoption of many IDP families, trauma counseling etc. people gave and gave; they gave their skills, time, finances & in-kind, love and compassion despite the prevailing economic commitments of that time of the year. Chapelites did not even remember their sacrificial giving towards relocation just a few months back, but worshipped the Lord in more giving. Chapelites honoured their pledges for various projects this year; thank God for Team 200, relocation pledges, Maputo mission, tithes & offerings and numerous other personal commitments which will never be named. The church has been able to meet its obligations honourably. Surely His grace has been sufficient for us; we may never thank Him enough! THANK YOU LORD.
