Habari!

Last week but one the Rev. John Gray of St Paul's Anglican Church, Sydney, Australia, was in Kenya visiting the Chapel. St Paul's is one of the churches we are developing a partnership with.

Habari. I hope that my words will convey something of the growing affection St Paul's has for Nairobi Chapel. I pass on greetings from St Paul's along with our love.

My own affection for you has deepened quite some over the last year. You made my family and I feel very welcome last December when we visited Kenya, and your care expressed to me was effective way beyond your plans: it was a significant part in allowing my tired soul to catch up with my body for the first time in a very long time. St Paul's owes you a great debt.

More recently, and more significantly, you rose to the mountainous challenge of the beginning of 2008. As a result, Jesus Christ has been glorified and people have been significantly ministered to in Nairobi. This was made very clear to me when I had the opportunity this week to meet the 74 Kimuri School children for whom you are caring.

It was a humbling experience to be in their presence. Little ones who have endured so much and yet experienced so much love from you physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. Oh my … those few moments I enjoyed with them will not easily be forgotten. How I wish all of St Paul's could meet them – and you. At the same time it is a deep joy to know that we at St Paul's were able, in some small measure, to partner with you in this care.  All of this has left my spirit quietened. I could not help but think that, one day, these children will be called upon by our God to speak much wisdom into our world.

In addition, St Paul's give thanks to our Father for your ministry during Msafara. It is a great encouragement to hear that the church was a significant voice at a time of national unrest. Your Senior Pastor, Pst Oscar, is a willing servant of God: one who is willing to be a faithful spokesman for Christ. As a result, God's ways were brought to bear.  I count it an unbelievable privilege to know him.

I know your ministry to those impacted by the skirmishes continues and this increases our affection for you.  May the Spirit of Christ further strengthen you for this – a ministry close to the heart of the Father. If Acts 17:26 – 27 is right, you are, indeed, the people for this hour in Nairobi. No doubt a number of you are feeling the effects of the '08 head winds. And there is little doubt that your staff, along with other key leaders, feel this particularly. May you find space for your soul to catch up.

I would have loved to have worshipped alongside you last Sunday, but the LORD had other plans.  Even so, I want you to know that you are very dear to the hearts of St Paul's. You are to us what the Thessalonians were to the first century: a model of faith.  You are in our prayers and our affection for your only grows. We believe it an honour to be in a growing partnership with you and that our small effort can combine with your phenomenal work to positively influence so many.

Rev. John Gray

Senior Pastor, St. Paul's CastleHill Australia
