INTERNSHIP - DEVELOPING LEADERS

“Imagine how strong a church would be if it had a deep bench of competent leaders in every area of its ministry.” Bill Hybels

We don't have to imagine, God makes it happen here at Nairobi Chapel! Since 1990 the Internship Program has consistently raised a pool of passionate and dedicated leaders. Many have become pastors, church planters and missionaries.  Other ex-interns are making a big impact in the society as they work various corporate organizations and companies.

There are four areas in which we seek to develop an intern:

“To Be” (CHARACTER): The most important thing is for an intern to have a Christ like character. Thus emphasis is placed on personal quiet time, reflective journaling, ministering as a team, continual assessment, group accountability and having a mentor. All these affirm and mirror areas of character growth.

“To Know” (COMPREHENSION): interns are encouraged to widen their knowledge of the bible, interpret it and apply it correctly to contemporary issues.  To grow in this area, they take several classes, read widely and make book reports of the books they read.

“To Do” (COMPETENCE): Each intern acquires leadership skills by serving in a focused area of ministry alongside seasoned leaders. They learn how to have a personal vision, mobilize, set goals, make decisions and many other necessary, hands-on leadership principles.

“To Love” (COMPASSION): Internship provides opportunities to grow in compassion towards everyone. To get this exposure, interns go out for Short Term Mission Trips around and outside the country. They also get to interact with the social ministries.

Interns raise financial support from friends, family and church members. This way, we can take on and train as many interns every year, which we would be unable to do if we were to pay them a salary. This also gives an opportunity to their supporters to be a part of their journey of faith for that one year when you commit to support them financially, mentor and pray for them.

This year we have four interns. Tim Engelmann joined us from Germany has been an intern since September 2006. He is preparing to return in July and serve in Germany soon after his internship. Mercy Ngure has been with us since September 2006, interning in the Children's Ministry.

Bridget Gakii (BG) has been with us since January. She is a graduate of the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Science degree. BG came to know the Lord while in high school and served in SALT, our campus ministry throughout her campus years.
BG
Gedion Kadu joined us in March. He is a graduate of Scott Theological College with a BTh (Pastoral Theology). Gedion attended a Muslim majority High School, where his interactions with them led to his commitment to full time ministry. Before coming to Nairobi Chapel as an intern, he served with Fellowship Baptist Church Mombasa College Ministry.

We will take on a new group of interns in September. If you would like to join this unique program, please pick an application form at the Info Desk and return by 30th June.

Pastoral Corner

Pastoral Care. Do you know of a member who has been bereaved recently, is in hospital, or has gone through trauma? Please, please call our office on 6752346/0725650737 or call Rose Muiu on 0722317961 to let us know. We want to care for our members well, but have no other way of knowing unless someone informs us. Once we know we do a great job at responding and being at their side . . . but only if someone let's us know first. So  if you have the news, take it upon yourself to alert us immediately.

Do you need someone to pray with you before, during or after the service? Look out for one the people wearing a bright red sash. These are our prayer counselors, and they will pray and talk with you.

Prayer Corner

Praise God for the Mission “Is the World Enough” in Australia, where Pst Oscar has been preaching this last week. Praise God for 20 people that got saved last Sunday, and another 10 on Friday.  Pray that the seed of the word of God, which has been planted in the hearts of many others, will find fertile ground.  We will get to hear more when Pst Oscar returns. Pray for journey mercies as he travels back this week.

We have received word from our manufacturers in SA that the fabrication of the tents is progressing very well. They will be ready on the 15th June. Praise God for this progress. We will not leave anything to chance, so pray that good quality will be maintained in the making of these tents, and that completion date will be honored by the manufacturer. Pray also for Ksh 5 million we will need to pay the manufacturers upon completion of that work, so that we can ship the tents right after that. Pray for special favor from the Lord so that we will get a tax exemption on the tents when they arrive in Mombasa.

The Bulldozer is on the site, and has begun making the land level and removing the tree stumps. Leveling the ground is the main physical challenge to the Relocation because of the rugged terrain of the land, the black cotton soil and the tree stumps. Pray for this phase in the development, that we will be able to do all things well. Pray that there will be no heavy down pour of rain, which could interfere with the leveling of the ground.

“This is the word of the Lord, to Zerubbabbel. Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord Almighty. What are you, O Mountain? Before Zerubbabbel you will become level ground!”
