Meet K-Krew
Ever heard of “K-Krew”? If you are older than 30 yrs, probably not! But if you’re younger: WOW – who doesn’t know K-Krew? K-Krew Ministries is made up of the K-Krew Family, Kubamba Radio and Totally Sold Out. The group has several young people that together create a powerfully captivating and diversified music ministry to high schoolers and young adults. They are led by DJ Moz, (Moses) and Njugush (Njuguna), and include other youthful leaders the likes the “Hip Hope” pop group and others. Around them they draw many local Christian artists, like Gospel Fathaz, Jemimah Thiongo, Esther Wahome, Rock of Ages, Rufftone and others.
Kubamba Radio: Is their first avenue of outreach. It is a call-in radio show hosted on Hope FM (93.3), 8pm to 12 midnight on Saturdays, with probably the highest rated listenership of Christian music shows. So much so that a good word from DJ Moz and Njugush or Pst Gowi “McOndinge” Odera, “Minister of tha Word”, on Kubamba about new and up-coming music and that gets the attention of the gospel music market. Many, many young people call in each week to ask real life questions and to get biblical answers to problems as they listen in on the latest music releases.
High School Outreach: Each term K-Krew visits 10 to 20 High School C.U.’s to DJ music, interact with youth and preach. Their credibility in the High Schools is so high that they cannot meet all the requests they receive to visit. 6 weeks ago I visited Alliance Girls High School with them and was completely bawled over by their ability to engage the youth, talk their lingo, and speak biblical truth into their lives. The kid’s loved it, and didn’t want to end the time. The potential of this ministry is phenomenal!
Totally Sold Out: Has been an annual music event held at New Year’s Eve. Last year it was held right here at the tent, attracting an estimated 12,000 youth with good music and clean fun over New Year’s Eve. There were 25 artists and bands in attendance, and this event was rated the largest youth event of 2006. A couple of weeks ago (April 29th), they took the event to Nakuru for the first time. 3,000 youth and parents were in attendance and, for a first in Nakuru, it was a great success!
With over 80% of Africa’s continent under the age of 30 yrs, the days of the old gospel crusade are over. Today it’s about youth and children outreach, and the most powerful avenue of communication is media (especially radio) and music! The evangelists of this generation are not the preachers on a soap-box, but the musicians. Because we have a passion to reach 1,000,000 people for Christ by 2020, we’ve decided not to try and (re)invent the wheel, but to team up with those out there already doing a fabulous job, strengthen them in a “win-win relationship”, and thus meet our faith goal. We’ve decided to team-up with K-Krew . . . to become one thing.
They will lead us in media and youth outreach so that together we can work at start up shows on TV/Radio, run a sound and recording studio, enter the secular media, reach teens in high schools, penetrate the youth culture, reach East Africa, and prayerfully eventually run our own station.
We in turn will help support them by making the chapel their home church, mentoring them, providing a place where the musicians they work with are welcome; give financial support, help with youth outreach, avail our musical/PA equipment to them, and assist in other ways like networking. They have also asked for help in discipling the many, many teens who come to faith during their high school visits.
This is BIG guys. This is HUGE. Every time I pray about it I have shivers down my spine with excitement at the thought of how much could be done in Christ’s name! Prayerfully we will be able to synergically accomplish much more together than we ever could alone.
To begin us off we have chosen 6 boarding high schools around us, and want to invite the alumni of these schools to help us “reach your old school”, help network us, disciple a small group, and support our visits to your high school financially. The schools are
Lenana School (Changez), Kenya High Girls School (Boma),
Dagoretti Boys High School (Ditches), Moi Nairobi Girls High School (Quabbz),
St. Georges (St. Geez), Alliance Girls High School (Bush Gals),
Alliance Boys High School (Bush).
If you are alumni of any of these schools, please join in; let us know so you can participate in reaching your old school! What about other schools? We’d like to go there too if you can network us and help us get an invitation.
