Own Your Church By Getting Involved.

This year is our year of growth. I sense that we are going to grow phenomenally, and that we’ll soon start a second service on Sunday morning. I want to trust God that our numbers will double, so that many more people can gather with us Sunday after Sunday and find life and strength in His Word as we study it together.

Great news! But with growth comes challenges, the first being that of leadership. For a church the size of Chapel, we need many more leaders in every sphere of ministry – in music, in drama, in the ladies ministry, men’s ministry, and every other area.

In the past we have gotten you to fill in Bio-data forms, and sought to intentionally place you into specific ministry areas aligned with your gifts. But that demands a lot of oversight and slow administration. So we want to do something different this time round – to list the ministries in need of leaders, and invite you to volunteer your service. That way we can facilitate leadership placement much more quickly.

Many of us here have excellent first class gifts that would be a huge blessing if harnessed for the Lord’s service. We want to encourage you to step forward and offer to serve using your gift. Some of you are teachers or parents, and have much wisdom on working with children. Please serve the Lord with that talent or gift. Others of you work in accounting, please volunteer to join our finance team and lend us your wisdom. Yet others are in the media world – couch us on how to serve God in that world. In this way you can own the church and make it more than just the church you attend. In the famous words of J. F. Kennedy, “Ask not what the Church can do for you. Ask instead what YOU CAN DO for the Church of Christ

So here are the wide open areas we need leaders in :

  • Architects and Real Estate Planners (we believe this year we shall move to our property)
  • Investment Financers (we are starting up an endowment fund for orphans in need of school fees)
  • Board management (several of our social justice boards need good, faithful decision makers to help lead).
  • Men’s fellowship leaders (more and more men are asking for this ministry to start)
  • Prayer counselors (to serve in praying with people after the service or during the week).
  • Hospitality homes (we have people regularly visiting the country on Short Term Ministry who need a place to stay).
  • Sunday Armor Bearers – Our speakers and service leaders are often overwhelmed by people after the service who need to speak with, counsel, be prayed for, etc. Each pastor would dearly love 2 or 3 people around to help.
  • Sunday School teachers – we have about 300 children in the Sunday School. Please help teach a class, or be a teaching assistant, so that we have enough teachers to keep our classes small and efficient. You can serve even just once a month.
  • Youth team leaders – same thing with youth ministries.
  • Radio & TV : We’d like to solid messages by local preachers on contextually relevant issues.
  • Drama
  • Dance
  • Sound and PA
  • Sunday set-up
  • Visitor’s tent : to serve our visitors a cup of tea.
  • Service Planning
  • Worship team
  • Choir for Christmas
  • Premarital Class teachers
  • Marriage Enrichment ministry
  • TULIP mentors.
  • Ecclesia group leader (these are our home bible study groups. Instead of joining an existent one, why not start one as the leader? We’ll give you direction and training.)
  • Dada’s Ministry – Older women the bible says you are to teach and train the younger. Please help in mentoring the younger ladies (20’s) through the Dada’s ministry.
  • Ladies Connection – for the 30 something’s ladies.
  • Women’s Fellowship
  • Young A’dis – Young Adults Fellowship. Step forward and help start this fellowship.

And maybe there are a couple more ministries you’d like to begin or be involved in. Remember you could help at the level of teaching, speaking, leading . . . or at the level of KYM, administration, think-tanking, etc. Find the niche that fits your gifts and let us know. Don’t wait until we “find” you, come up and tell us of your desire to serve in a specific area.

HOW? Pass by the Info. Desk and leave your name & no.; or send an email to info@nairobichapel.org.

Pst. Oscar Muriu

Announcements

Giving Dec. – Our total giving for the month of December was 3.58 m. Amazing, and thrilling! Of this, 527,712/= was our Dec 24th service giving, and will be given away to children in need of school fees this term. Please continue giving generously – this is going to be a BIG year with all the special challenges ahead of us.

Tra-La . . . we have surprisingly good news for you! You’re not going to believe this!!! But you have to come back next week to hear it. I guarantee  you will scream for joy when you hear it!

School Fees – The bible encourages us to do good, especially to those who are in the household of faith. If you are a parent with  a child in a public school, and need school-fees assistance,  you are welcome to apply for assistance by letting us know ASAP in writing. We want to reserve as much money as we have for those children who are orphans and are in Children’s Homes, but we also want to bless our own members here, so don’t feel shy about asking. We will however scrutinize very carefully.

ROPES 2007: Is your child turning 13 this year or will he/she be completing primary school? The Crossroads class and Ropes program which prepares preteens for transition into young adulthood begins on the 11th of February 2007. If you wish your child to participate in this transitional program please sign them up and pay registration fee at the info desk and also pick up the parents letter.

Sponsoring needy children: In December we had a chance to hear stories and appeals of children from TULIP, Cheryl's Home and Tumaini kwa Watoto. We handed out little prayer cards with a photo of a child and his or her story and need. The children are ready to go back to school and are hoping they will find sponsors to meet their needs. We hope that by now you have been able to pray and have made a decision to support a child. Kindly put your donation in the offering bag in an envelope or leave it at the info desk. Indicate the name of the child you wish to sponsor, and the home he/ she comes from. If you were not around in December, or did not pick a prayer card, you can still sponsor a child. You can give a gift designated 'school fees' and we will give to a child in need. Stop at the info desk to get details.

School Of Prayer: Do you have the gift of intercession, the gift of knowledge of prophetic words, and the gift of discernment? Would you like to go to the next level in discerning prayer? Sign up for the school of prayer 10 weeks of study on how to be an intercessor. The class starts on Friday, 25th January at 5.30, and will run every Friday for 10 weeks. Venue is Mamlaka Hill Chapel. It will be taught by Pastor Simon Mbevi a gifted intercessor who has been involved in prayer ministry for many years. Pst Mbevi comes from Mavuno Church.

Musically gifted? Do you have the gift of singing or playing an instrument? We are in the process of recruiting and training a substitute worship team that can relieve the regular team periodically. Please sign up at the info desk.

Pray: Join us for the pre-service prayer meeting every Sunday at 9.45-10.15.
“I will stand at my watch, and station myself on the ramparts; I will look and see what he will say to me. I will seek his face…We have heard of your fame, we stand in awe of your deeds, Oh Lord. Renew them in our day; in our time make them known” (Hab 2:1, 3:2). Oh Nairobi Chapel, Oh that more than anything else you would pray for your church, your leaders, your ministries, your vision! Let us pray until the Lord does great and wonderful things in our midst as he has promised.
