Meet our interns

The Nairobi Chapel internship is a one year leadership development program structured for those who would like to explore if God is calling them into full-time ministry. The interns go through an intense time of growth in character and ministry skills, so that when they do become leaders in their own right, they are like David, who “shepherded Israel with integrity of heart; with skilful hands he led them” (Ps78: 72). Character is developed through spiritual formation, mentoring, continual assessment, reading, and bible devotion. Ministry skills are acquired through on-the-job, hands on experience in ministry and working in close proximity with visionary leaders who guide them in getting a personal vision, mobilizing others, setting goals, drawing up critical paths, decision making, and many other necessary, hands-on leadership principles.

This year we have four interns who have transitioned with us as we settled over the last one year, so they all joined internship at different times. From this year we will structure our internship to begin and end at the same time for all the interns so that they get to work and grow as a team.
Interns are not paid a salary. They are required to raise money to cover their living costs while on the internship. This gives them an opportunity to grow in their faith as they raise support from God’s people, and gives the church an opportunity to become a part of their development and journey of faith.
If you are interested in the internship, please pick an application form. Deadline for application is 30th June.

Mercy Ngure is a graduate of the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Economics. She gave her life to Christ in 1997. She loves children and has been a Sunday school teacher with us since we relocated to Ngong Road. She has been on the internship since September last year 2006. It has been a very intense time of growth in character and ministry skills. Mercy hopes to continue working with the kids after the internship.

Bridget Gakii (BG) is a graduate from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor of Science degree (Mathematics and Chemistry). BG came to know the Lord while in high school and served in SALT, our campus ministry throughout her campus years. BG is hopes that the internship will grow her leadership gifts and lead her to a clear calling that God has on her life.

Gedion Kadu came to Christ at the age of fourteen through the witness of his elder brother. Gedion attended went to a High school where the majority of students were Muslims. He developed a strong passion for Christian apologetics as he witnessed to his fellow students. It was here he sensed a calling into ministry to help people find the way, the truth and the life. He is a graduate of Scott Theological College with a BTh (Pastoral Theology). Before coming to Nairobi Chapel as an intern, he served with Fellowship Baptist Church Mombasa College Ministry.

Tim Engelmann was born and grew up in Tanzania and was led to Christ by a chapelite. After high school, Tim had the option of joining the German army for a one year of Service, but opted to join the army of the Lord instead! He is doing a year of Voluntary Social Service at Nairobi Chapel. Since September, he has explored the different ministries of – in his German eyes – our mega church, including the website and the youth. Tim is passionate about discipleship of the youth and cross-cultural networking for the Kingdom of God. He will use his experience of the Body of Christ in Tanzania, Germany and Kenya to serve his generation in Germany.

Pastoral Corner

Pastoral Care. Do you know of a member who has been bereaved recently, is in hospital, or has gone through trauma? Please, please call our office on 6752346/0725650737 or call Rose Muiu on 0722317961 to let us know. We want to care for our members well, but have no other way of knowing unless someone informs us. Once we know we do a great job at responding and being at their side . . . but only if someone let's us know first. So  if you have the news, take it upon yourself to alert us immediately.

Bereaved… John and Agnes Githiaka lost their two week old baby – Israel  - last Sunday. Baby Israel was buried this past Friday. Thank God for the precious gift that baby Israel was. Pray for grace and comfort for his grieving parents.

Recovering…  Thank God for the following people /members who have been unwell but are steadily recovering
Brennan – one of our Sunday School boys, is now home from hospital
Mrs. Roselyn Ngorok – still under medication from a bacterial infection
Wachuka’s daughter Njoki, was discharged from hospital last week and is feeling much better after a severe tonsillitis infection

Pray for good health for all especially now as we get into the cold rainy season

Prayer Corner

Sunday school will do a major teacher training to equip teachers from about 10- 15 churches in our teachers training retreat at Diguna. Pray for provision, good health and journey mercies. During this training, we will talk about how to work with children who have special needs, including children who are HIV positive. Several of our trainers will speak from experience in working with these children. Pray for wisdom on how they will deliver the message for the teachers to understand.

The Marriage retreat is on this weekend at Turtle Bay Beach. Thank God for giving journey mercies to the couples that travelled to Malindi. Pray that the Lord would use this time to refresh and strengthen marriages.

The move is on! Praise God for someone who has offered us earth moving equipment to level the land and remove tree stumps.
Thank God also for the cordial relationships with the forestry dept in charge of Lenana station and the forest wardens.
For good neighbours, giving us favour with them… We have pooled together with film studios, BM security to connect to the main water supply that always runs with water.
Thank God for the KPLC—they are cooperating to help connect power. We have donated all the tree shrubs that have been cleared away to Beacon of hope

Prayer needs for relocation: we need to send the deposit of 5million for the tents to SA by Monday; pray that we will be able to successfully drain the property which has too many streams, also the challenge of managing the back cotton soil.

Pastor Oscar's journey to Australia:

From May 16- June 2nd, Pastor Oscar will travel to Sydney, Australia. He will be a key speaker at an evangelistic mission conference in the Anglican Parish of Castle Hill. The conference is titled “Is the World Enough?” The theme text of the conference is “What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?” (Luke 9:25)

During the mission week, Castle Hill Church will creatively use James Bond movie, The World is Not Enough, hence the mission title, “Is the World Enough?” Pray that this creative outreach will appeal to a lot of people that would not otherwise attend church.

Pray for Australia, a secular, wealthy nation, but very hardened towards the gospel. The state of secularism and disinterest in the gospel is such that during the weeklong mission conference, Castle Hill church has invested huge amounts of resources to fly in Pastor Oscar and other international speakers with the hope of bringing only 100 people to Christ, to see another 100 people join a discovery class and to extend the influence of the church by 500 people. In Kenya a similar evangelistic effort would target thousands of converts. Pray that there would be more than these projected numbers. May the Lord surprise and reward this church’s effort by giving them a bountiful harvest.

In Australia, there is a steep decline in church attendance, very noticeable in some of the larger and more traditional churches like the Anglican Church. The drop in attendance is even more significant among the younger generation. The average man on the streets does not see the gospel as meaningful or the church as relevant to life. Pray that many Australians might find their solutions to life’s problems and identity in a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pray for the Castle Hill Anglican Parish. It is one of the few, evangelical Anglican churches in Australia, committed to transforming people into fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ, in an environment that is very saturated with secularism.  Pray that the Lord would make their witness powerful in the City of Sydney.  Pray that the leaders of this church may be encouraged by their fellowship with our Pastor and other visiting pastors whose churches are growing.

Pray for other speakers who will co-minister with pastor Oscar, including Pastor Stephen Lungu (African Enterprise), whom Jesus turned from a gangster into a follower of Christ, Pastor Dave Rodriguez and Chris Jarvis from one of our partner churches, Grace Community Church, Indianapolis, USA.

Pray for his journey and stay in Australia.  Pray for his family, that God would watch over them while he is away for the two-week period when he will be gone.

Harvest School of Prayer: Join this 10-week class every Friday evening from 5:30-7:30 pm. Pst Simon Mbevi of Mavuno Chapel has developed it. Several groups of people from Mamlaka Hill, Mavuno, Mashariki, Covenant Chapel and groups from other churches have already taken it.  It is causing a prayer revival in those churches. We encourage as many people to join the upcoming class, as it will completely transform your personal prayer life as well as in the church. Please sign up at info desk. Cost is Kshs 2500 to cover the training manual and refreshments. Venue will be at the tent.

Tyranus Hall: if there is any class you would wish to join but did not sign for it, please leave you name at the info desk and indicate the class you wish to join.

Gift Sunday: Beginning this month, we have designated every last of the month Sunday as a gift Sunday, where we will give over and above our tithes and offerings to fund our relocation in September. If you write a cheque, please designate at the back that it’s towards the relocation. If you were not able to bring your gift today, you can post your donation into the fundraising account Nairobi Chapel NIC City Center, No. SA2-228000007.  You can also bring in your contribution towards the relocation next week, and indicate that it’s towards that it’s your gift Sunday commitment.

Enable our Sunday school teachers! We have another Teacher Training Retreat coming from 10th-12th May. It is scheduled to happen at Diguna.  Many of our teachers cannot afford to pay the 2500/= that is needed to facilitate the training. Please prayerfully consider sponsoring them for this great opportunity. Please visit our information desk for details.

Crèche: Both of our Crèches are in operating in full capacity. Since we do not have space to put up a third Crèche tent, we encourage those of you with a child 3 years and above to please take them to the Sunday school.  There is a 3+ year olds class. We also ask that only one parent to stay with the child in the crèche. Thank you for your patience on this one for a little while longer. Soon we will move to our land where we will have all the room we need for a crèche.

Weekly Prayers: come to the tent every Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 for a weekly prayer meeting. Let us commit ourselves to pray for the transformation of our lives and those around us.
